MILA - biodegradable glitter brand
Diploma project
June 2021

Through my project I committed to propose completely bio-degradable glitter products.

As a cosmetic brand I also inspired reliability on the hygienic and esthetic matters.

Then, through this subject I changed the collective point of vue of today that I mentioned on the use of glitter as an accessory more class and not only reserved for a festive world.

I created a brand that will be modern and talk to all public of 2021 interested in cosmetics but in reality I am traveling back in the past. Before, glitter were not made of plastic but of mica, metals or even crushed insects and were a sign of beauty and wealth. We can also think about the other rich dimensions that glitter had, becoming a symbol for the feminist and LGBTQ+ communities.

Therefore maybe the term to create an image is not the right one but rather revisit the different images that glitter had throughout History. I am excited to explore that subject which is truly deeper than we could think on first impression and so to surprise. I like to go against prejudice.

Bringing light again on glitter through a committed cosmetic brand.

As part of my Graphic Design Bachelor at LISAA Strasbourg, I present to you my end of studies project. This project of 2020-2021 is a way of resuming and demonstrating through a multidisciplinary subject our acquired skills after three years of studies.

A value that is precious to me and that I share with my school is ecology. Our teachers through my Bachelor taught us how to use graphic design with an aim to raise awareness on a subject as well as only to communicate. This goes with the actual context that surrounds us everyday and that we can no longer ignore, the one of our world suffering of global warming and pollution.

Glitter is associated, in the collective imagination of today to qualities poorly flattering : with a mediocre quality, polluting compositions and a trivial or kitsch aspect.

Nevertheless, it would be possible to step away from this vision if I was able to give them a new image, of precious quality, biodegradable compositions and symbols rich in meanings.

As part of my end of studies project, I created a brand of glitter cosmetics, in a fictive context.

Micro-plastics represent today 85% of oceans pollutions. Glitter are micro-plastics and are more and more visible and have a growing impact on our environment. By their size of less of 5mm, they go through any possible system of water filtration and so the eco-friendly alternatives would be to stop using them or to change their harmful compositions.
